Hopkins County United Way campaign workers turned in almost $20,000 in donations and pledges received from local businesses, industries, agencies and individuals this week.
That’s $47,442 of the $150,000 campaign goal met, with three meetings and tallies from some of the larger industries which regularly contribute still yet to come in, HCUW campaign officials noted.
HCUW Executive Secretary Susan Berning noted there were three new campaign workers at Thursday’s meeting, and expressed appreciation to them as well as the many long-time volunteers for their work in the campaign.
Campaign Co-Chair KK McKenzie noted she and a few other HCUW officials toured the Community Chest facility on Lynda Drive shortly before the meeting.
Bill Owens reported another “deposit” from Jay Hodge Chevrolet; the business is donating $100 for each car sold during October. Jennifer Heitman reported $5,000 pledge so far from Hopkins County Hospital District and EMS/Communications. A CHRISTUS representative reported $2,458 collected this week from hospital staff, funds raised from different raffles offered for $1 a change, auction items such as fried pies and a knife her father made; this Saturday, a kickball tournament is planned for hospital staff to raise additional funding. A generous contribution came from the CANHelp Thrift Store.
Donations may be made to Hopkins County Community Chest by mail at PO Box 735 Sulphur Springs, TX 75482; by calling 903243-4066 to schedule an appointment; by contacting any HCUW board or campaign member; or turned in during next Thursday’s campaign workers report meeting at 9 a.m. at Texas AgriLife Extension Office.
This year’s campaign will benefit 17 local agencies which provide necessary assistance and enrichment activities for people of all ages and groups in Hopkins County.
All donations made to remain in Hopkins County and go to help those in need and for enrichment of local residents, except a 1% required match to United Way Worldwide for use of the name and logo.
