As is often the case, voter turnout has been relatively low during the early voting period for the Nov. 7 elections. On the ballot is the District 2 House seat formerly held by Brian Slaton and 14 propositions for amendments to the state constitution.
Overall, only 7.2% of regiestered voters in the three counties in HD 2 cast ballots either by mail or in person through Nov. 2 of the early voting period.
A total of 9.15%, or 2,238 of the 24,452 registered voters in Hopkins County had cast ballots during early voting. In Hunt County, 6.05% (4,066) of the 67,230 regiestered voters in Hunt County and 7.96% (3,144) of the 39,522 registered voters in Van Zandt County had cast ballots in the HD 2 election. Across the state, only 5.45% (967,868) of the total 17,759,273 registered voters in Texas had cast ballots either by mail or in person with one day left of the early voting period.
Voting in both elections will resume at 7 a.m. Tuesday, and continue through 7 p.m. Nov. 7 for HD 2 and the Constitutional Amendement propositions.
