Brashear man accused of stealing from neighbor, running from cops twice

A Brashear man caught with property stolen from a neighboring residence tried to escape out a window with his kids, then, escaped out of a patrol vehicle and lead deputies on a brief foot pursuit before being apprehended, deputies noted in arrest reports.

Hopkins County Sheriff ’s deputies responded at a County Road 1113 residence, where the owners said their weekend house had been broken into sometime over the last week. Among the items missing from the home was a stand-alone black and white air conditioning unit. Deputies noted there were no tire tracks to the residence which sits about 300 years off the road in a field, so the deputies began working on the theory that the thief or thieves lived or were parked close enough to have walked over from a neighboring residence.

Hopkins County Sheriff ’s Office Cpl. Josh Davis went to the nearest residence on CR 1113. He noted the door was not secured upon his arrival. When he knocked, the door opened but was chain-locked from the inside. However, Davis claimed it was wide enough for him to see an A/C unit fitting the description of the one reported stolen inside of the home.

No one would answer the door, but someone was believed to be inside the home because the door was chain-locked from the inside. The deputy called into the home with no response more than once, but what reported seeing what appeared to be the stolen A/C inside. So, Davis sought a search warrant for the address.

While deputies awaited to see if the search warrant would be granted, two juveniles went to the door but refused to open it and, in fact, closed and further locked it, Cpl. Davis alleged in arrest reports. Deputies heard loud noises coming from inside the residence. So, Davis made the decision to force entry through the door. As Davis did, however, he heard another deputy yell for someone to stop running. Robert Christopher Wolf II and his children exited the home through a window and were detained, Davis alleged in arrest reports.

Wolf was taken into custody and placed into a patrol vehicle while deputies waited for the search warrant. He then allegedly managed to escape from the back of the vehicle and took off running on foot. The 34-year-old Brashear man was again taken into custody.

Upon receipt of a search warrant, deputies found other property believed to be that taken from the neighboring residence, two bags containing 46.3 grams of mushrooms, three bags containing a total of 3.7 grams of a substance that tested positive as cocaine and two Keltec handguns. A records check too showed Wolf to have a felony conviction within the last five years, deputies noted in arrest reports/ Consequently, Wolf was charged with burglary of a habitation, evading arrest or detention, escape from the patrol vehicle while in custody, unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, possession of 4 grams or more but less than 200 grams of a Penalty Group 1/1B controlled substance and a Penalty Group 2 controlled substance.

Man threatens relatives with lawnmower

Deputies responded at 5:16 p.m. on County Road 4759, where a man was allegedly trying to run over family members with a riding lawn mower.

Upon arrival, a city officer was talking to Jonathan Damon Shew, who was on a zero-turn riding lawn mower. The officer reported seeing the man doing donuts with the mower in the middle of the county road.

Other officers went to speak to the complainant. Authorities were told the man almost struck a femalewhile operating the mower. He was also accused of using methamphetamine. Shew was reported to move sporadically, was sweating profusely, and unable to remain still while seated — behavior often characteristic of people under the influence of narcotics.

Deeming the man to be a danger to himself in his state, the deputies advised the 47-year-old Sulphur Springs man he was under arrest for public intoxication. He asked the deputies to tow the lawnmower, which was blocking the flow of traffic on the county road.

Upon transport to the county jail, Shew complained of shoulder pain and was taken by ambulance to the hospital. A short time later, after being cleared by medical professionals, Shew was driven back to jail, where he was booked in for PI.
