Hopkins County Marine Corps League, led by MCL Judge Advocate Bob Kerr, will memorialize the fallen law enforcement officers who have fallen in the line of duty at 11 a.m. Friday, May 15, on Celebration Square in downtown Sulphur Springs.
National Police Week occurs every May. In 1962, President Kennedy proclaimed May 15 as National Peace Officers Day and the calendar week in which it falls, as National Police Week.
National Peace Officer Memorial Day honors fallen officers and shows support for their families. There were 363 names added to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in 2026.
This year’s program in Sulphur Springs will include comments from local law enforcement officials. Eighth Judicial District Attorney Will Ramsay and Hopkins County Sheriff Lewis Tatum and will bring attention to the brave officers who put their lives at risk every day to serve and protect the citizens of East Texas.
