Hornets, Lady Hornets finish second
MILLER GROVE — The District 23/24-1A Area track and field meet was recently held at Miller Grove High School. Three Hopkins County schools — Miller Grove, Saltillo, and Sulphur Bluff — would all represent their school well, winning multiple medals.
MILLER GROVE
The Miller Grove Hornets and Lady Hornets both had strong outings, with both teams finishing second overall.
On the boys side, Ryker Haivala highlighted the day with a pair of gold medals: placing first in both the 1,600-meter run with a time of 4:35, and in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 10:14.
Drew Lester won a gold medal in the pole vault, placing first with a height of eight feet. Lester also placed fifth in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 12:19.
Lane Wright earned a silver medal in the 800-meter run, placing second with a time of 2:13. Wright additionally earned a bronze medal in the high jump with a height of five feet, six inches.
Mason Clements placed second in the high jump with a height of five feet, eight inches, earning a silver medal. Clemens also placed sixth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.70 seconds.
The 4x400-meter relay team, consisting of Haivala, Lester, Yahir Santana, and Wright placed second with a time of 3:52, winning a silver medal.
The 4x100-meter relay team, consisting of Clements, Ethan George, Cannon Ramsey, and Jesse Yates, placed third with a time of 49.5 seconds, earning a bronze medal.
The 4x200-meter relay team, consisting of Eastin Christian, George, Cage Hasten, and Ramsey placed third with a time of 1:46.
Santana would place fourth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:19. Santana also placed sixth in the 400-meter dash with a time of 56.20 seconds.
Hasten placed fourth in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 24.30 seconds. George finished fifth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.20 seconds. Kaden Mabe placed sixth in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 51.90 seconds.
On the girls side, Anna Culbertson placed first in the pole vault with a height of six feet, six inches, earning a gold medal. Jamilyn Hensley earned a gold medal in the shot put throw, placing first with a distance of 30 feet, four inches.
Audrey Yates earned a gold medal in the high jump with a height of four feet, eight inches. She also earned a bronze medal in the triple jump with a height of 29 feet, 8.5 inches. Additionally, Audrey Yates also placed fifth in both the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:10, and the 1,600-meter run with a time of 6:58.
Alaira Serrano earned a silver medal in the 800-meter run, placing second with a time of 2:44.
Paige Neidhart earned a bronze medal in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 15:24. Neidhart also placed fourth in the 800-meter run with a time of 3:00, and fifth in the pole vault with a height of five feet.
The 4x400-meter relay team, consisting of Culbertson, Kyle Hargrove, Neidhart, and Jaci Roberson placed third with a time of 5:14, earning a bronze medal.
The 4x200-meter relay team, consisting of Culbertson, Hensley, Roberson, and Bella Vaculik placed fourth with a time of 2:09. Hargrove also placed fourth in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 15:48.
SALTILLO
The Saltillo Lions placed eighth overall, while the Lady Lions placed fifth overall.
On the boys side, Adrian Don Juan earned a pair of bronze medals: placing third in both the 800-meter run with a time of 2:15, and the 3,200-meter run with a time of 11:29.
Dakoda Womack placed fourth in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 5:06. Womack also placed fifth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:21.
Conner Purl placed sixth in the discus throw with a distance of 85 feet, two inches.
On the girls side, Addi Pipkin earned a silver medal in the 1,600-meter run, placing second with a time of 6:18.
Jaelynn Miller placed second in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:05. She also placed sixth in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 6:58.
The 4x200-meter relay team, consisting of Jaylee Miller, Katie Olvera, Harley Perez, and Ryleigh Redar placed third with a time of 2:09, earning a bronze medal.
The 4x100-meter relay team, consisting of Jamie Alvarez, Jaylee Miller, Perez, and Redar placed fourth with a time of 1:00.
The 4x400-meter relay team, consisting of Jasmine Alonso, Alvarez, Olvera, and Pipkin placed fourth with a time of 5:56.
Gabby Ross placed sixth in the discus throw with a distance of 71 feet, 3.5 inches. Amberley White took sixth place in the 800-meter run with a time of 3:13.
SULPHUR BLUFF
The Sulphur Bluff Bears finished in fourth place as a team, while the Lady Bears placed third overall.
On the boys side, Christian Gonzalez placed first in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:02, earning a gold medal. Gonzalez also placed second in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 4:42, winning a silver medal.
Ayden Johnson earned a gold medal in the shot put throw, placing first with a distance of 38 feet, half an inch.
Landon Marroquin earned a silver medal in the 3,200-meter run, placing second with a time of 11:14. Marroquin also won a bronze medal in the 1,600-meter run, placing third with a time of 5:04.
Evan Carr earned a bronze medal in the 110-meter hurdles, placing third with a time of 20.60 seconds. He also placed fourth in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 48.70 seconds.
The 4x400-meter relay team, consisting of Clint Degen, Mason Friddle, Marroquin, and Matthew Overly placed fourth with a time of 4:12.
The 4x200-meter relay team, consisting of Degen, Dakota Klemptner, Overly, and JR Ramos placed fifth with a time of 1:48.
Degen placed sixth in the triple jump with a distance of 34 feet, five inches. Braydon Byrd placed sixth in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 12:40.
On the girls side, Bre-Anna Stanley earned a gold medal in the 300-meter hurdles, placing first with a time of 55.90 seconds.
Emerson Fite placed first in the discus throw with a distance of 79 feet, 10 inches. Fite also placed fifth in the shot put throw with a distance of 28 feet, four inches.
Xavannah Gonzalez took second place in the shot put throw with a distance of 29 feet, eight inches, earning a silver medal.
The 4x200-meter relay team, consisting of Xiomara Escobar, Fite, Ana Servin, and Kinder Stanley placed second with a time of 2:07, earning a silver medal.
The 4x400-meter relay team, consisting of Natalie Carrell, Yulisa Castillo, Fite, and Stanley placed second with a time of 5:08.
Zaylee Peyton earned a bronze medal in the 800-meter run, placing third with a time of 2:45. Peyton also placed fourth in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 6:28.
Servin placed fifth in the 800-meter run with a time of 3:02. Emma Carr finished fifth in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 20.20 seconds.
Advancing athletes recently competed at the Regional track and field meet, which was held April 19 and 20 at the University of North Texas.
