SALTILLO — A familiar face has returned to a familiar place in Hopkins County, as Saltillo ISD announced that legendary coach Garry Davison will be returning as athletic director and head girls basketball coach.

Davison, a seasoned coaching veteran, previously coached at Saltillo from 1988 to 2013. During that time, he led the Saltillo Lady Lions to state championship game appearances in 2001 and 2013, where they fell just short to the Nazareth Swiftettes and Whitharral Lady Panthers respectively.

After his first stint at Saltillo, Davison became the head girls basketball coach at Tenaha High School, where he served for nine years. He would lead the Tenaha Lady Tigers to four Regional Tournament appearances.

Davison spent the 2022-23 school year as the head girls basketball coach at Chapel Hill Northeast High School in Mount Pleasant. During that time, he led the Chapel Hill Lady Devils to a 29-7 record and Regional Championship game appearance, where they fell to the Winnsboro Lady Raiders.

Davison replaces Bill Giles, who departed Saltillo to accept the head girls basketball coach position at Ford High School in Quinlan. The Lady Lions are coming off a 34-5 season, where they finished as co-district champions. In the playoffs, they defeated the Miller Grove Lady Hornets 70-6 in the Bi-District round before falling 61-52 to the Throckmorton Lady Greyhounds in the Area round.

The next Davison era is officially underway in Saltillo, and he will once again look to guide the Saltillo Lady Lions to more success.
