Eagles beat Detroit in impressive outing

Kept opponent off balance all game

The Como-Pickton Eagles scored an impressive win Tuesday when they took down the Detroit Eagles 57-32 in battle of two teams with the same name. Como-Pickton kept Detroit off balance and never gave them a chance during the game.

Como-Pickton scored early and often in the first quarter while also limiting Detroit to only two points, establishing an early 18-2 lead. The quarter would be highlighted by two three pointers from Dalton Morgan and Christopher Ramirez.

The second quarter saw Como-Pickton’s defense continue to play well, only allowing four free throws made. Como-Pickton also added 11 more points to extend their lead to 29-6 going into halftime.

Detroit improved lightly in the third quarter, as they outscored Como-Pickton 13-12. Despite this, Como-Pickton held on to a sizable lead, 41-19.

Despite giving up 13 points on defense, Como-Pickton would add 16 more points on offense to close out a 57-32 victory.

Tucker Rutledge was Como-Pickton’s leading scorer with 22 points. Morgan was right behind him with 11. Other scorers include Ramirez with nine, Alex Perez with six, Hayden Potts with three, and Kevin Hernandez, Nate Lovelady, and Cash Wilton with two each.

Head coach Colby Rogers stated that he was proud of how hard the team played.

"They shot the ball well and got the shots we wanted to take," Rogers said. "We played pretty good defense and rebounded the ball really good. Overall, we played good team basketball."

Como-Pickton’s next game is Friday, when they welcome the Mount Vernon Tigers to Como-Pickton High School.
