Hammond goes 4/4 from plate

CUMBY — The Cumby Lady Trojans continued their winning ways Friday with a 12-1 home victory over the Celeste Lady Blue Devils. After Celeste scored a run in the top of the first inning, the Lady Trojans responded with 12 unanswered runs, running away with the victory.

The Lady Blue Devils opened the game with a run in the top of the first inning, taking an early 1-0 lead. The Lady Trojans would then score four runs in the bottom of the first inning. Neely Hammond and Harly Pence would both launch tworun home runs, allowing Ashlyn Hudson and Kinslee Dowdle to score, as the Lady Trojans took a 4-1 lead.

The Lady Trojans would add two runs in the second inning, coming from Lilly Campbell and Ella Horne, to extend their lead to 6-1. Following a scoreless third inning, the Lady Trojans added two more runs in the fourth inning when Hammond and Dowdle scored again, building the score to 8-1.

After holding Celeste scoreless in the top of the fifth inning, the Lady Trojans scored four more runs to end the game. Campbell, Hudson, Hammond, and Dowdle would all score, as the Lady Trojans polished off a 12-1 runrule victory.

As a team, the Lady Trojans batted 17 for 29 (.586) from the plate. Hammond led the way, batting a perfect 4/4. Campbell, Dowdle, Hudson, Erin Morgan, and Pence added two hits each, while Jenna Elmore, Bella Faulknor, and Horne added one hit each.

Dowdle and Hammond were the leading scorers with three runs each. Campbell and Hudson scored two runs each, while Horne and Pence scored one run each.

Hammond earned the victory in the circle. Across five innings, she struck out 10 batters and only allowed four hits and one earned run.

With the win, the Lady Trojans are now 9-0 in district play and 11-2 overall. They resumed action Tuesday, traveling to Wolfe City to face off against the Wolfe City Lady Wolves.
